Jonathan Calleri
He's scored 2 for Las Palmas tonight in a 4-1 over FT Deportivo La Coruna. Not bad goals.

Re: Jonathan Calleri
A crap player who is not up to the premier League in anyway at all. Would always do better in Spain playing for one their weaker teams. Like Zaza, and probably like bilic.

After he's gone you'll never see any of them in England again.

Re: Jonathan Calleri
Coruna are just about the worst team in that league and played a weakened team.

Good luck to him, but judging by the games I've seen him play in Spain (well only 2), he'll only be scoring against the gash, as he just isn't that good.

Bizarrely I turned on a Chinese Super League game recently and Vaz Te was not only playing but got a couple of goals. Had no idea he was over there. Still scores when he wants it would seem!

Re: Jonathan Calleri
At the end of the day strikers can earn more time by scoring
Players ‘settle’ at different rates but all you ask is that you can see a spark of something
Someone like Kanoute who debuted on loan against Wimbledon when DiCanio scored the volley .... it was obvious after about 2 mins we should sign him
Tevez you could see he was a player so the crowd stuck with him.

Callieri .... didn’t even see a sign of a pulse as a footballer
Like Zaza he maybe even got worse as time went on.

Re: Jonathan Calleri
some players click at some clubs and not at others. I remember John Hartson, quality for us, sold to Wimbledon and completely disappeared.

Also we expect instant success and it sometimes takes players half a season to get 100% used to playing in a new set up. Fonte is having a much better season than last, and perhaps Ayew will rediscover the form that had us paying 20m for him after last seasons stop-start season marred by injury.

True that. He was a good athlete, pressing the defenders, looking for runs but as soon he did get clear of the defence with the ball he panicked.

I think some players are just suited better at some clubs than others. Its no surprise that most British players don't go abroad.

Re: Jonathan Calleri
Most strikers you can imagine what they will do to score a goal .... outpace a defender, win a header, unleash a shot etc
Watching Callieri I went blank.
Can recall him through one on one v Bournemouth and 3 yds from goal with the ball v Tottenham and still looked incapable of scoring.
The goal v Boro only went in because it was deflected and presume they didn’t have the heart to take it away from him.

Re: Jonathan Calleri
He always looked frightened when he played for us. A lot of his play looked frightened too.

Perhaps he's thrown off his stage fright.

Re: Jonathan Calleri
always thought he'd have been better in a 2 rather than up top on his todd with two wide players feeding him.

Re: Jonathan Calleri
If anything Bilic persisted too long with Calleri who, for all his faults, responded by giving 100% in every game he played. I fail to see how his lack of success can be attributed to a falling out with the manager.

Re: Jonathan Calleri
One thing I will say about Calleri is that he never went "missing" in a game.
He was always getting in scoring positions.
Just didn't have the nerves or accuracy to convert under pressure.

I think in a team that was doing well he probably wouldn't have been so nervous.

I think he could have done well here given time and a better coach. (something we do not have!)

Re: Jonathan Calleri
Could be that Bilic is a shit manager and doesn't know how to manage players as he falls out with a lot of them if they disagree with him.

Please also tell us about how Mauro Zarate, Manuel de Costa, Alassandro Diamanti, Ravel Morrisson, Victor Obinna, Modibo Maiga, Simone Zaza etc... etc.. are all 'doing', as it is always endlessly interesting.

How he didn't win goal of the season for his effort against Middlesborough I'll never know.

No pace for the PL.
Zaza had the same problem.

1-1 with the Bournemouth keeper, missed the target.

Re: Jonathan Calleri
All I'm saying is he should have been giving more of a chance here. If he can do it in Spain he could do it here.
